Boat Plans Bartender

Well, I’ve made a start. !!
As you will see, I’m a bit limited for space. Only got a carport where my wifes shiny red celica usually lives. Shes been over in Geelong sailing for the last week and gets home tonight. I know she wont be impressed with the mess. Anyway, Ive marked out the 2 temp frames and cut one out. Cut out the transom & glued them together. Also cut out and in the process of glueing & glassing the topsides and the bottom plates together.
RegardsVinnie

????
The History behind the “MUSHULU” name.

People often ask me:
"where did you come up with the name "Mushulu"" ?

As some of you may or may not know, but a few years back Debbie and I and our two young daughters lived on a 42 ft catamaran called “INFLIGHT” for 11 years. During those great years , we sailed most of Northern Australian and then sailed offshore , exploring and working our way though PNG/ Indonesia/ Malaysia and Singapore.

Living on board a yacht, naturally one makes many friends, but the funny thing about it is, your surname is your boat name. So in our case, it became Mark and Debbie from INFLIGHT. No one knew our real surname and we didn’t know theirs.

Well, one year while the cyclone season was on, we decided to hang around Cairns/ Qld and whilst there, a young couple John & Linda who lived on a Piver trimaran called “MUSHULU” approached us about building them a new tender for their yacht. They gave us this set of plans for this tender, but after taking one look at it (it was a dog), I offered to design and build a totally new concept for them. After accepting, I grabbed my paper and sketched out a 11 ft planning hull and after showing it to them, we then began to look for somewhere to build it.

Just up Trinity Inlet there is a slipway called Coconut Grove slipways and next to it is a small farm owned by a fella called Ted. He offered us a small space in his machinery shed and after anchoring our yacht outside his property, Debbie and I began construction.

Throughout the process of building, naturally the boat was named “THE MUSHULU” after John and Linda… as it was their “surname” !!  Even after launching, we were approached to build 3 more for other yachties, but the name was always the “Mushulu”

Well, Years later after we got of the boat (2003), I found my old sketches after unpacking and decided to knock up another one to sell ( a bit of ice cream money for the kids) So, after putting it up on the supermarket notice board, it sold it 4 hours. So, we built another, took it for a blat and within a week , we had orders for 13 more.

All thru this, we tried as hard as we could to come up with another name, but no matter what, the name “Mushulu” kept coming back (old habits are hard to break). So, in the end, after I drew up a proper set of plans for it, the design name remained… the Mushulu 12,

and the rest is history.

Now you know where the name comes from.
It was John & Linda’s “surname”.
