Boat Plans Wood
Sams Sandy Strait 14
Well time flies when youre busy...I just noticed how long its been since my last post in this thread ! At last heres some new pics
Seat is tabbed in, Ive left the transom knee out until I can do some bogging and sanding in the areas that will be hard to get at once the transom knee is in
The sole is glued in but not tabbed yet, poured bouyancy foam in via the gap in the centre before closing it up (neglected to take a pic though) I cut the sole down the centre to cut down on the amount of fillet compound needed to fill the gap along the outer edges of the sole to the hull. This left a gap of 40-60mm down the centre.
Drainage through to aft of the seat, and access for cleaning - dont want any manky smells where they cant be got at. Also, I can have a removable pipe for an overflow if I decide to use the front locker as a live bait tank. Have to see if it will affect the trim too much or not.
The storage hatch was a tight fit, I had to make a recess in the sole to allow the hatch to open fully and avoid breaking the hinge if somebody was to stand on the open hatch.
Still to do - anchor storage in bow, transom knee, rubbing strip, gunwales, motor clamp pad, running strakes......more than I thought ! Oh and a bit of filling /sanding/painting

Mark and Debbies RipTide 457
Gday all,
With Easter on and our eldest daughter Natasha (from the Mushulu 14 video footage) and Scott (our son in law) up for a visit, we decided to grab them for a quick hand to pull the boat off the mold, take it outside, turn it over and bring it back into the shed. Being that the boat was so light, Debbie wanted to take the front, even though it meant walking backwards, while Scott and I had to lift it over the mold to take it outside. Natasha had a broken arm in a cast, so she got the job of taking photos of the whole affair.
Damn it was light !
Tomorrow Ill take the temporary molds of the strongback, trace around the bottom half to make up a set of female molds, then well lift the boat back onto the strongback, ready for sanding, glassing and fitting out the interior
Crikey, the RipTide 457 is a BIG BOAT for its size
FOLLOWING DAY:
Spent the morning making up the female molds from some scrap MDF board I had lying around.
Tomorrow Ill make up the last mold for the bow section and slot it into postion.
After we put the boat into the molds, I couldnt resist jumping inside for a feel as to how big and strong it feels.
Debbie disappeared only to turn up a few minutes later with the camera to snap off a couple of pics. Problem is with pictures, it doesnt really give a true impression of the boat and its size.
I remember when Con, Graham and Tony would send it pics of their boats (The SportzMaster 19 and Cruise Control), that it wasnt until I actually visited that one got a true impression of the size of the boats.
Now the real fun begins...fitting out

Arthurs Mushulu 12 (Canada)
Mark,
In regards to photos of the boat, our camera quit and all I have currently is the webcam on the laptop, which doesnt take that great of pictures.
Instead of painting I am adding aluminum powder to my last 2 coats of epoxy that fill the weave. The pictures are after the first coat.
Regards
