Recent News From Bowdidge Marine Designs
Gday all,
Sorry for the late posting on our blog, but time just got away with all that has been happening here.
Firstly, I just accepted a position as an Instructor with the Westlawn Institute of Marine Technology.
Naturally this means that first thing in the morning, Im grading exams from students who are from all corners of the globe who are undertaking studies for designing vessels up to 120 ft. Once I get thru those, then my day can begin with our own designs, answering emails and phonecalls as well. So dont worry, BMD will be continuing as usual !
The phone and emails still pour in with enquires for our next generation of designs, that were looking at. "Carolina Style boats", bigger Pro Tournaments, bigger cab boats and more, in regards to the Sports fishing scene. Ranging from 20 - 35 ft, in various forms of construction, yes that even includes aluminium and steel boats as well, so over the coming months once I get settled in, its going to be on.
Anyway, enough from me, so have a good one and...

Lances Sea Strike 16 (NZ)
Well I guess my boat status can officially be classed as splashed.
Steve and I headed out from my local beach as soon as I picked the boat up from shop. After a couple of pics on the sand, she was straight into the drink. Slid off the trailer perfectly, drawing very little water, especially for a deep V. Knee deep was easily enough. The big Suzuki was fired up and we idled out to the 200 mtr mark. ( wake free zone) I pushed the throttle half way down, the boat simply lifted up and bolted forward, 30 mph @ 4500 rpm and it was running just superbly, quiet, cleaving through the chop like it wasnt even there.
The full bow section combined with fine entry and deep v make for a stunning ride. Steve was blown away at
just his well it went. He took the wheel..... You should of seen the grin on his face. Nothing flustered it at all and it wasnt exactly calm. 15 -20 knot southerly wind , in coming tide made for sloppy confused sea conditions. The boat just ate it up, calm and composed. Any spray that come over was simply overcome by going faster.....the strakes just blew everything way out wide and you outrun it.
Stability was awesome. At rest with 2 of us on one side she barely heeled. It just didnt make sense...Steves 20 ft boat with a 180 litre water ballasts system would be flopping everywhere in the same
conditions.
Everything worked. Livey tank, wash down hose, scuppers, the lot. Talk about happy camper.
A high speed run back to the beach was topped off with a cold beer and a dog walker asking me what make of fibreglass boat it was. Classic.
Having ya best mate offer to by the boat right there and then was a fairly good indication that it went pretty bloody well. Today made every second of all the hard graft worthwhile.
A couple of days later we went out again for an early morning dive mission. Once again the wind came up to over 20 knots. This NZ spring weather is driving me nuts and I dont even know how this boat goes in calm conditions! With this freezing cold souwester head on all the way home, I popped Leon in the consol with a bag of chips and he fell asleep! Trimming the nose down and punching home with the authority
of a 747, I simply cannot get over how well this boat rides. I had two sets of scuba gear on board plus full compliment of fishing gear and we cruised back at over 30 mph, overtaking all manor of boats in the way. My friend Matt was utterly staggered. A little 16 ft centre console should not be blasting past 6m hardtops in choppy as all hell conditions.
I had a massive grin plastered across my face the whole time. Looks like the fish will live to fight another day though. Got dinner..... But she was slow fishing.
Johns Tropic 12 (Aust)
It was great to see John launch his tropic 12. He comments:
...on the way to the first launching, I had a month away riding bikes, but now its time to splash.
The Tropic 12 only draws a couple of inches and she sits right on the chines in 6 inches of water with a full fuel tub and a large battery beside the engine and the "figure head" aboard !
Our "REEL QUICK" Fishing Section
Adams Sea Strike 16 (Blue Arrow)
Was a hard fish on Friday but we managed to get a few on the downrigger. Michael Lazar from Sydney Kingfish came out on the Sea Strike 16. He loved the ride.

Stability at rest very good and those interceptors work a real treat.Hard to believe how flat it tracks when planing. This Tropic 12 will make an excellent car topper, traveling perfectly on my Kimberley Kamper boat loader.
Thanks Mark a great little design which suits my needs perfectly...about those stickers!!!!!
