Boat Plans Building

Hi there everyone.
I’ve been watching you blokes building on the forum, while I’m having fun fishing… just thought you may like to know what I’ve been up to lately.
Here’s some mods I’ve been making on the Mushulu 14. After getting quite a bit of use out of the boat, I found it a bit annoying walking over the seat to drop the anchor and so on, so I thought about cutting part of the midship seat out for a walk-through and fitting out the section between the seat and foredeck with a fake floor. I wasn’t using the storage area in the mid-seat as much as I thought I would because there’s plenty of storage space in the foredeck and rear seat compartment.
After pencilling some measurements I could still retain two seats, the easy walk through and a nice foredeck to stand and fish from. It should be practical and look good once it’s all finished. I’m also planning to fit out a bulkhead, stern side, to mount forward controls and steering making life a little easier to cruise around… I’ll send some more pic’s as things develop…

Mathew rang me up prior to doing all this, asking if it was possible without effect the structural intregity of the hull. After looking over his proposal, we came up with this solution that would allow him access without effect the strength of the boat !

Weve just recieved Mathews latest build modifications photos.

He writes:

Hi all,

Here’s the latest mod’s. I’m not in a hurry, just working on the boat a few hours here and there on my day off. I’m very happy with the way the floor has turned out and it’s so much easier to walk through. I’ve just used a constructional grade, 3 veneer x 7 mm thick ply and it’s turned out really well – very solid under foot.

??? ????????????????????????????????????????????????As I’m tinkering around, it will only take a few hours to finish off the bit where the seat used to be – I’ll be using the cut out of the seat itself to bridge the gap, it’s already glassed out. Will send some more photo’s soon. Other mods on the boat will be forward controls and steering etc. But I’m really looking forward to building a much bigger boat once Mark’s foam core plans come out.

Here are the photos of the temporary frames stood up. I just have number 10 at the stern to cut out and that sheet arrived this arvo, so i will have it cut out and stood up in the next day or so. Then Im into the planking, speaking of which, the last photo I call "" The Great Wall of Paulownia"
