"The Black Label 27 “ was inspired by the slippery old hulls that were developed during the age of the rumrunner’s.
The hull design concept involves narrow sections, a fine entry, and long, flat buttocks and fairbody which means ... she slices.
Her accomodations include an island lounge upstairs, whilst in the forward cabin she as a full galley/ large double berth and an enclosed shower/toilet.
Also the Black label is styled to reduce windage, and its that styling that adds to the overall effect. All forward-facing surfaces on the superstructure are raked aft and slanted back to spill wind up and over the crew. All molding and trim is in keeping with this aerodynamic flow.

Since getting into strip plank composite designs, weve had so many enquirys on
"How do you strip plank?"

The general perception out there is that it looks very complicated, especially for the first time builder. 

Well actually, its very, very easy!

Many of our clients have never built a boat before and using our method, are flying through their builds.

It was around 4 months ago that we decided to make these videos. One night whilst strip planking, I asked Debbie to grab the camera and said

"Lets have some fun and make a strip planking video. No rehersing or practice runs...just hit play and lets make it up as we go along."

So Debbie grabbed the camera, hit play and off we went. Crikey, I didnt know what I was going to say from one minute to the next !!

Well, after posting them on our forum, they were an outstanding success with many commenting how great they are and also how easy the process looks.  Sure theyre rough around the edges, but many have sinced used our build process after watching the videos a few times and then going out and duplicating the technique on their boats... with top results. Weve even got a few professional boatbuilders using our technique, whilst building our designs and commenting on just how easy it is!

No doubt, some of you have visited our Boatbuilding forum and not found the videos.
This is because the videos are only available to Members Only and not the general public. By joining our forum, you get full access to a greater range of topics and also access to these videos.

Overall the strip planking videos, (5 in all, ) play for a total time of 45 minutes, so if your interested in this building technique but are unsure of your building abilities, why not  Join our Boatbuilding Forum and see just how easy it is !!

Here is some pics of the Black Label 30 with her port side 85 percent planked. Really enjoying the build so far and Im very happy with the planking!! So far the hull is looking to me nice and fair - well considering I havnt put my plywood binder straps in between the temporary frames and on the end of the stealer planks yet. Mark and I were talking today and he has worked out all the fiberglass, filler and resin quantities and the order should be in tomorrow!!!!!

Hey guys,
Well I didnt get to standing my temporary frames up today, spent all day matching the template pairs, sanding them back to back to ensure they are a mirror of each other - rechecking everything against the plan. Im just making sure everything is as accurate as possible to hopefully save on some fairing and filling later on.

My jig is complete my stem is cut out and I have 9 of the ten frames cut out as I have run out of chipboard. Because of the 2700 beam, it has been a little more time consuming because two - 2400x1200x19 sheets side by side would not fit the majority of the frames. So a 150ish wide strip has been added to either side to take up the full width. after work this week. I will begin to stand everything up and begin bracing. My Paulwonia has been ordered - 1800lm worth!!!!!!!! With any luck it should be here within two weeks, so all going to plan I should be ready to start planking in two weeks as well!

Before I begin the planking stage, all the cost I have outlayed is screws and PVA glue, the pine framing for the jig was leftover from a job and all the chipboard I got for a carton of beer from a cabinetmaker mate who gets them as coversheets. If you want to build a boat and want to save some $$$$ its worth asking around because this boat requires 18 - 2400x1200x19mm chip board or mdf and I was quoted $48 a sheet - or $860, so long as it still has the makers edge and is square it doesnt really matter what is used. I used a simple water level and string line setup for getting my jig perfectly level and strai.ght also very cheap once again and accurate to within half a millimeter.

Here are the photos of the temporary frames stood up. I just have number 10 at the stern to cut out and that sheet arrived this arvo, so i will have it cut out and stood up in the next day or so. Then Im into the planking, speaking of which, the last photo I call "" The Great Wall of Paulownia"
